This finding identifies the interactions between the ZnS core and a very thin GaP shell as a highly unique strategy enabling the direct band transition. The band diagram results obtained from DFT calculations agree well with experimental observations where the direct band transitions were realized through the use of a ZnS core and the formation of a monolayer-thin GaP shell.
